Captained by the legendary Rich Telford, a World Champion from California’s hardscrabble central valley, Sacramento XSV is a talented team who has their work cut out for them as they make their first PSP appearance of 2012, as the pro field is stacked for the World Cup.

The team has been in existence since 2004, building off the core of the Ironmen who won the world title in 2000 in dynamic fashion. Between 2004 to 2007, XSV built their team to be the best in the world for a short time before they had to almost completely rebuild in 2008. Since then, they have constructed a very formidable squad.

Snake specialist and ten year veteran Thomas Taylor is one of the most popular and hard working players in paintball, and when he’s on, he’s hard to stop. They are not many players in paintball who push forward as aggressively as Taylor. Hopefully the knee he injured midseason has healed, though young Jerry D’Amato has improved greatly over the past few years, has become a hugely productive member of the team and will also be doing work in the snake as well.

XSV is deep, with strength at every position. On the Dorito side, they have the veteran Riley Sullivan. Sullivan is an athletic beast for XSV, and has been playing top-level paintball for ten years, playing on the now defunct Oakland Assassins during their heyday.

The Bornstein brothers Corey and Jason have come into their own as well, and with a backfield held down by Telford and Junior Brown, XSV is looking to have to strongest team they’ve fielded since they sat at the very top of the paintball world.

The prelim schedule they must fight through in order to make it to Sunday is not unmanageable; they play Seattle Thunder, Omaha Vicious, Los Angeles Infamous, and Tampa Bay Damage. XSV had a great back and forth battle with Vicious a few seasons ago when they were rebuilding, and should stack up nicely against Thunder. It’s the Infamous and Damage games that will be the true tests for them.
